Summary of the thesis results: This thesis studies theoretical issues regarding classification work to serve as a basis for practical research on the application of the Vietnamese Decimal Classification (DDC) framework in university libraries in Hanoi in the current period, specifically as follows: Theoretically, the thesis examines the content of concepts such as classification, document classification, classification framework, classification table, etc.; the role of document classification in library information activities in general and for information users in particular; and factors affecting the effectiveness of document classification. Practically, the thesis studies the practical basis for the research subject, which includes an overview of the origin and development; organizational structure and staff; physical infrastructure and information technology infrastructure; characteristics of the document collection; characteristics of information users and their information needs at university libraries in Hanoi. Simultaneously, the thesis focused its time and intellect on conducting a practical survey and research into the use of classification frameworks in university libraries before the decision to adopt a common DDC classification framework, and the current state of application of the DDC 14 classification framework in university libraries in Hanoi over the past period. Based on the research results collected, the thesis presents its assessments of the effectiveness of applying the DDC 14 classification framework in university libraries in Hanoi, as well as some limitations and identifies the causes for improvement. Furthermore, based on the research results, the thesis proposes several measures to improve the effectiveness of application, such as: perfecting the Vietnamese version of the Decimal Classification 14 framework in terms of content and form; Training to improve the skills of staff to gradually perfect the classification process: strengthening the attention of state management levels through investment in infrastructure, funding, and especially high-level legal documents... 11.
