Summary of the thesis results: Within the framework of a thesis topic, I applied knowledge of medieval gender culture to study the image of men in Nguyen Cong Tru's works from a gender perspective. The results of the research I conducted are as follows: 1. Medieval Vietnamese society was a patriarchal society with Confucianism as the state religion. In that cultural context, men always carried within themselves a sacred and noble mission and held the highest leadership position. Women had a low status, living in a dependent position and being dominated by the etiquette and customs of a patriarchal society. Reading Nguyen Cong Tru's poetry, we see the image of a man with courage, spirit, and a desire to express his individuality. Imbued with Confucian principles of loyalty and filial piety, and acutely aware of his talent and virtue, he strived to dedicate all his talent and virtue to building a lasting career and reputation – this is the essence of Nguyen Cong Tru's character. 2. The male figure in Nguyen Cong Tru's works embodies both lofty ideals and the refined elegance of a talented gentleman. Although at times he may appear arrogant, "outside the constraints of worldly life – in the tranquil pleasures of the land, his face still reflects a sense of destiny," the orbit of the Three Religions (Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism) still surrounds him as if by fate. Essentially, Nguyen Cong Tru was a Confucian scholar who broke free to become a talented and versatile scholar, exhibiting subtle and unconventional elements of folk culture. 3. The image of the male figure in Nguyen Cong Tru's works shares many similarities with the works of orthodox Confucian scholars. On one hand, the gentleman lives according to Confucian doctrine, carrying within him the sacred mission of self-cultivation, establishing a career, educating the people in morality, and fulfilling the noble duty of a man. On the other hand, the gentleman also holds a harsh and conservative view of female chastity. Furthermore, the gentleman in Nguyen Cong Tru's works differs significantly from that of orthodox Confucian scholars. In Nguyen Cong Tru's works, the virtuous man, after fulfilling his mission in this world, enjoys personal life, including "music, chess, poetry, and wine," and is deeply imbued with sensual pleasures. Nguyen Cong Tru was an individual who lived according to his own will, disregarding all constraints; he always boasted about his talents and glorified them.
