Summary of the thesis results: Based on identifying the socio-cultural origins that formed the literary movement "the lost generation" and the "lost generation" character type in American literature, the thesis examines and identifies the basic characteristics of this character type in three novels about war by E.Hermingway (The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls) and points out the methods of exploring the "lost generation" character type as stylistic signs of E.Hermingway. In E.Hermingway's novels, the "lost generation" characters clearly show the process of formation and development of human personality under the impact of war. E.Hermingway's artistic solution to the problem of "lost generation characters" is the formula "humans can be destroyed but cannot be defeated". Due to direct experience of war, the war prose of E.Hermingway as well as that of the "throwaway generation" writers is strongly lyrical, in which the author's tone is prominently anti-war. 11.
