The thesis presents the results of the survey of place names in the work Thuong Kinh Ky Su. From there, it describes in general terms the characteristics of the structure of place names in literary works, the changes in names as well as the changes in administrative units of place names from the 18th century to the present.

Nowadays, there are many place names that have either changed or have been lost. This thesis will help us learn more about the process of change of some place names, pointing out the impact and influence of factors inside and outside the language on the way of structure as well as change of place names.

The thesis applies theories of place names, history, and Vietnamese language history to examine place names in the work "Thuong Kinh Ky Su" to contribute to providing more important sources of documents for the young field of Place Names in our country today; supplementing sources of documents for the study of Vietnamese language history and further affirming the role of sources of documents such as literary works in language research.

The thesis presents the results of the process of surveying geographical name in the literature “Thuong Kinh ky su”. Since then, a general description of the feature of creating geographical name in literature, the change of names as well as the change of administrative units of geographical name from the 18th century to the present.

Currently, there are many places that have changed their names or lost. This thesis will help us find out more about the transformation process of some geographical name, showing the impact as well as the influence of factors within the language and outside the language on how to structure as well as some changes of geographical name.

The thesis applies theories of toponymy, history, and history of Vietnamese in order to survey geography name in the literature "Thuong Kinh ky su" to contribute to the important theories for the young field of Geography as our country today; affirming the role of literatures in survey geographical name.
