This thesis presents the results of a survey of place names in the work "Thuong Kinh Ky Su" (Records of the Journey to the Capital). From this, it provides a general description of the structural characteristics of place names in the literary work, the changes in names, and the changes in administrative units of place names from the 18th century to the present.
Currently, many place names have either changed or disappeared. This thesis will help us understand more about the transformation process of some place names, pointing out the impact and influence of internal and external linguistic factors on the formation and changes of place names.
This thesis applies theories of toponymy, history, and the history of the Vietnamese language to examine place names in the work "Thuong Kinh Ky Su" (Records of the Journey to the Capital), aiming to contribute to providing important source materials for the nascent field of toponymy in Vietnam; supplementing source materials for the study of the history of the Vietnamese language; and further affirming the role of literary works as source materials in linguistic research.

The thesis presents the results of the process of surveying geographical name in the literature “Thuong Kinh ky su”. Since then, a general description of the feature of creating geographical name in literature, the change of names as well as the change of administrative units of geographical name from the 18th century to the present.
Currently, there are many places that have changed their names or lost. This thesis will help us find out more about the transformation process of some geographical name, showing the impact as well as the influence of factors within the language and outside the language on how to structure as well as some changes of geographical name.
The thesis applies theories of toponymy, history, and history of Vietnamese in order to survey geography name in the literature "Thuong Kinh ky su" to contribute to the important theories for the young field of Geography as our country today; affirming the role of literatures in survey geographical name.
