Firstly, the focus of the study is to examine the similarities and differences in English and Vietnamese greetings. The literature review of the thesis is based on the theoretical foundation of speech acts, politeness strategies, pragmatics and culture theories.
Second, it points out the characteristics of the invitation behavior and compares the invitations of English and Vietnamese to find out the similarities and differences in culture. On that basis, the study can give some suggestions in using invitations for English and Vietnamese learners to help them communicate properly.

The research results of the thesis can help improve the quality of language use in English and Vietnamese, helping learners to more easily identify types of invitations and understand more about communication culture in different languages.

Firstly, the focus of this study is on the cultural similarities and differences between English and Vietnamese greeting categories. The theoretical background of the thesis is based on theories of language, communication, cross-cultural communication, definition of speech acts, classifications of speech acts, politeness theory including positive and negative politeness strategies.
Secondly, the features of English and Vietnamese greeting categories were highlighted. By comparing the greeting and invitation of Vietnamese and English to find out the cultural similarities and differences, the study can suggest some implications in using greeting categories for Vietnamese learners of English to help them communicate properly.
