This thesis has focused on clarifying the issue of national interest in Vietnam's foreign policy from the Doi Moi (Renovation) period to the present.
Based on an analysis of historical facts, international relations, political science, and documents on the global context, regional situation, and Vietnam from 1986 to the present, this study examines national interests in Vietnam's foreign policy. National interests are expressed through the planning and implementation of Vietnam's foreign policy in two main periods: 1986-2000 and 2000-present. Depending on the specific context and circumstances of each period, national interests are manifested through various aspects and forms. However, regardless of the period or circumstances, Vietnam's interests – "national interests" – remain a major and overarching theme in Vietnam's foreign policy from the Doi Moi (Renovation) period to the present.
This topic presents some practical and theoretical foundations regarding national interests in Vietnam's relations with countries and territories around the world, along with lessons learned that contribute to resolving some of Vietnam's diplomatic issues in subsequent periods.
