10. Summary of the thesis results:

This thesis has researched and clarified the following: In the context of globalization, regionalization, and increasingly deep regional economic cooperation, especially the trend of East Asian cooperation (or ASEAN + 3 cooperation), a comprehensive assessment of the dynamics and formation of East Asian regional cooperation is needed to gain a more concrete understanding of this cooperation in the future. Simultaneously, it assesses the role of GMS sub-regional cooperation in promoting cooperation in East Asia within the current international cooperation context to develop effective orientations and solutions to promote East Asian cooperation towards the formation of an East Asian community. The role of major countries in the region in influencing sub-regional cooperation also needs to be fully and comprehensively identified and evaluated. These are very urgent issues requiring thorough research. The task of this thesis is to clarify the role of GMS cooperation in East Asian cooperation (or ASEAN + 3) and its development prospects.

11. Practical applications:

The overall research findings of this thesis contribute to a more comprehensive assessment of the role of the GMS in East Asian cooperation; propose several directions and solutions for developing East Asian cooperation and enhancing the international role of the sub-region by 2020 in East Asian cooperation; and contribute to the body of research materials on regional cooperation and the role of the GMS in regional cooperation.

12. Future research directions:

Firstly, the specific policies of ASEAN +3 countries in particular and the GMS in general in promoting East Asian cooperation. Secondly, the access of private enterprises in GMS countries to markets as East Asian cooperation is formed and put into operation.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

The thesis focuses mainly on: in the context of growing globalisation, regionalization and economic integration, East Asian cooperation, now known as ASEAN + 3, should be examined thoroughly and comprehensively in terms of formation and development so that we can have a better view of how this cooperation will become in the future. The roles of Greater Mekong Subregion in building up the regional cooperation in the East Asia are also studied to work out frameworks and guidelines for a clearer shape. The influence of other regional powers on the GMS cooperation is part of the thesis work on the basis of the overall and comprehensive view. These work as main requirements to be taken care of in the thesis. Therefore, the thesis mainly deals with how important the GMS cooperation plays the role in pushing up the regional cooperation in East Asia and its potential development.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The results of the thesis work helps other researchers and readers have a better understanding of the roles that GMS plays in the regional cooperation of East Asia community; suggest some development prospects of East Asian cooperation as well as the international part of GMS up to 2020 in the East Asian community building efforts; add some research documents to the archive of regional cooperation and the roles of GMS in regional cooperation as well.

13. Further research directions, if any:

First, the concrete policies of ASEAN + 3 countries in general and GMS members in particular to step up East Asian cooperation. Second, how private enterprises of GMS countries will probably expand their reach into the East Asian markets when the regional cooperation is well shaped and ready on the move.

So it is needed to have the further researches on the above two contents.
