Firstly: The thesis introduces in a general way the issues of history, Buddhist literature, Buddhist poetry through typical magazines in Southern poetry in the period 1955-1975. The thesis briefly introduces Zen master Van Hanh, Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc, Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, Vu Hoang Chuong, Tru Vu, Nguyen Pho, and lists poems composed in the magazine "Van Hanh" by some typical authors. From there, the thesis presents the values of Buddhist ideology in Vietnamese literature, like a gentle breeze blowing into the reader's soul, creating a garden full of vitality, sparkling, exuding a gentle and elegant fragrance.
Second: The thesis presents the concept of Symbol according to literary theorists: Symbol is a "means of creating form and expression" with "polysemy" in literary works. According to SXPocxo: "Symbol is a sign depending on the object it represents due to a common rule which is a common association.". Therefore, it shows that symbols in literature have polysemy, abstraction, and cultural characteristics. When analyzing symbols, it depends on the customs, beliefs, etc. of each country, each locality and each historical period.
Third: The thesis studies two main and primary inspirations in the poems in Van Hanh magazine, which are national inspiration and religious inspiration. Therefore, the poems in Van Hanh magazine have both depth in ideological content and appeal in artistic expression. Then, the thesis analyzes the meaning and value of artistic space and time of the poems in Van Hanh magazine.
