Congress of the Faculty of History Party Cell for the 2025-2027 term: affirming the leading position in training and research in History and Culture

On behalf of the History Faculty Party Committee for the 2022-2025 term, comrade Pham Van Thuy presented the Political Report, highlighting the results achieved in all aspects, while pointing out the aspects that have not been completed according to the Resolution of the Congress, clearly analyzing the objective and subjective causes of the shortcomings.
During the 2022-2025 term, the Party Cell of the Faculty of History has completed the organizational structure and leadership of the Faculty of History, all departments and affiliated centers; promoted the work of fostering teaching and research capacity, perfecting academic titles and degrees, nearly 90% of teaching staff have met the PhD degree standards, 50% of young lecturers can teach or present in English. Enrollment work at all levels and systems has met, exceeded targets and been stable over the years. In 2024, the Faculty opened a new program and officially enrolled students for the PhD program in Cultural Management. The Party Committee has paid close attention to Party development work, promptly receiving new party members who are lecturers and students to participate in activities at the Party Cell.
Scientific research and foreign affairs work achieved outstanding results: from 2022-2025, the Faculty's staff published 212 domestic articles and 35 international articles; chaired and participated in 23 topics at all levels, organized 16 seminars (3 international seminars), and 20 scientific presentations. During the 2022-2025 term, foreign affairs activities took place actively and effectively. The Faculty sent 30 staff on business trips abroad, and attracted 01 visiting professor, 40 lecturers, scientists, and international graduate students to participate in the teaching and scientific research activities of the Faculty. On behalf of the Party Committee for the 2022-2025 term, comrade Dang Hong Son - Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell presented a summary of comments on the documents of the Party Congress of the School and the Political Report of the Party Cell, expressing high agreement with the structure and content of the documents. In addition, the Party members of the Party Cell of the Faculty of History also proposed that the Party Committee of the School study and supplement the Political Report with a number of specific solutions to successfully implement the set goals: building a model of training institutes including many training majors of all three systems; realizing the goal of developing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into a research university; promoting the development of research groups at the School and National University levels; developing and organizing the implementation of major projects on Social Sciences and Humanities; expanding and substantivizing international relations; innovating and standardizing the reception and processing of administrative documents in the direction of digitization and streamlining. At the congress, party members participated in lively discussions and contributed many opinions, expressing high agreement with the development orientation of the Faculty of History in the new context.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (former Party Secretary, former Vice Principal of the University, former Director of the Center for Seas and Islands) analyzed: The current context creates many opportunities but also many challenges for maintaining and developing the basic science sector, especially under the pressure of university autonomy. Therefore, it is necessary to have specific solutions not only to complete the targets set by the Resolution of the Congress but also to affirm, develop the prestige, position, and mission of a leading historical research and training unit of the country and dialogue with the world's research community on the country's issues. To achieve that goal, it is necessary to build major, key research programs and orientations, closely linked to the building of a team of highly qualified and expert staff; review and absorb the world's experience to boldly set targets for establishing 1 or 2 new majors. The Faculty of Cultural Studies needs to play a pioneering role in researching new cultural phenomena and trends, in order to provide policy advice appropriate to the new context. In addition, it is necessary to diversify revenue sources to ensure successful university autonomy. Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan (former Head of the History Department) expressed his confidence that the next generation of staff will successfully complete the mission of continuing the tradition of the History Department, and at the same time emphasized some key contents that the Party Cell needs to pay special attention to and be determined to successfully implement in the new term: Building a set of historical documents to honor, preserve and promote the quintessence of many generations of scientists in the 70-year history of the Faculty's formation and development; Strongly promoting and completing the construction of textbooks for all subjects; Completing the training structure of all training programs from undergraduate to doctoral level. Attending and directing the Congress, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Party Secretary, Principal of the School) acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the History Department Party Cell in the past 2 years, demonstrated through the seriously and elaborately prepared Political Report, especially the scientific research work and building an international academic environment, attracting the effective participation of many leading experts and researchers from many countries around the world.
Party Secretary Hoang Anh Tuan completely agrees with the orientation of developing the Faculty of History according to the model of a training institute, promoting its rich tradition and increasingly affirming its leading position in the country in History, Cultural Studies and enhancing its international reputation.
The Congress unanimously elected the History Faculty Party Committee for the 2025-2027 term, consisting of 05 comrades: Comrade Dang Hong Son, holding the position of Party Cell Secretary; Comrade Nguyen Van Anh, Deputy Secretary and 03 Party Cell members: Comrade Do Thuy Lan, Comrade Nguyen Hoai Phuong and Comrade Ho Thanh Tam; elected 16 official delegates and 02 alternate delegates to attend the School Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term.
