Oesol – SJ Tech Scholarship: A great source of encouragement for Korean Studies students.This is the 11th time the Oesol Foundation and SJ Tech Vietnam have awarded scholarships to VNU-USSH students since the two organizations officially signed a cooperation agreement (in 2022). Each round awards 9 scholarships, each worth over 6 million VND. These scholarships are awarded to students with excellent academic achievements (3 students); those from very difficult family circumstances who have strived to excel in their studies (3 students); and those who are class officers, Youth Union/Student Association officers, and have made positive contributions to student movements and the community (3 students).
At the scholarship award ceremony, Mr. Choi Myung-sik, Chairman of the OESOL Foundation, congratulated the students on their continuous efforts to achieve excellent results in their studies and extracurricular activities. Introducing the OESOL Foundation's mission, Mr. Choi Myung-sik emphasized: “Founded by the distinguished linguist and Korean studies scholar, OESOL educator Choe Hyun-bae, for the past 50 years, we have strived to develop Korean studies and spread Korean culture in countries around the world, with a focus on investing in education. Through awarding scholarships to students, we hope to fulfill our social responsibility to the younger generation – the future leaders of nations – and to serve as a bridge to introduce Korean culture, country, and people to the international community.”
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, delivered a speech at the scholarship awarding ceremony.
Expressing sincere gratitude for the valuable support of the Oesol Foundation and SJ Tech Vietnam over the years, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, emphasized: “Not only have the Oesol Foundation and SJ Tech Vietnam awarded valuable scholarships to students, but they have also partnered with the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the University in many activities. The recently held Korean Culture Festival 2024 attracted a large number of students majoring in Korean Studies, spreading strongly throughout the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities student community. It was an opportunity for students to further their academic knowledge, express their love for the country, people, history, and culture of the "Land of Kimchi," and also opened up many opportunities for cooperation in training high-quality human resources and scientific research. The 9 outstanding students from the Korean Studies major who received scholarships today will surely be the sparks that ignite and inspire. "A spirit of perseverance and unwavering determination to excel in studies and life."
Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong expressed her hope to continue receiving the support of the Oesol Foundation and SJ Tech Company in the school's activities, especially in training experts and high-quality human resources in Korean studies in Vietnam.
Ngo Phuong Linh (a third-year student majoring in Korean Studies), representing the nine scholarship recipients, delivered a speech expressing profound gratitude to the Oesol Foundation, SJ Tech Vietnam, and the University.
Hangeul and Korean Culture Festival: A practical opportunity to enhance professional knowledge.
Also at the scholarship award ceremony,Oesol Association and SJ Tech Company presented the awards for the "Korean Language Impressions" Contest as part of the event.The 2024 Hangeul and Korean Culture Festival, organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the Oesol Association and SJ Tech (Korea), took place in September 2024. This event also commemorated the 578th anniversary of the creation of Hangeul and the 130th birthday of the great linguist Oesol Choe Hyun-bae (1894-1970), who made significant contributions to the development and preservation of the Hangeul script. The festival was not only an opportunity to celebrate Korean cultural and linguistic heritage but also a chance for students and faculty of Korean Studies in Vietnam to learn, exchange ideas, and experience the profound cultural values of Korea. At the event, performances from student clubs delivered vibrant and captivating acts, such as Samulnori, a performance of traditional Korean musical instruments, K-pop dancing, and especially a display of exquisite and artistic Hangeul writing skills; demonstrating the love and deep understanding of Hangeul and Korean culture of VNU-USSH students.
Within the framework of the Festival, one activity that attracted the participation of a large number of students from the Faculty of Oriental Studies was the "Korean Language Impressions" Contest, with the theme of expressing understanding and feelings after watching a video introducing the great linguist Oesol Choe Hyun-bae and the Hangeul alphabet. In a short time, the contest organizers received many high-quality entries with creative and unique presentations.
Master Heo Seon, representing the organizing committee, shared the criteria for judging and awarding prizes for the essays on Hangeulnal and Korea.
To recognize and encourage the students' passion for research, the organizing committee selected outstanding entries to award one first prize, one second prize, one third prize, and seventeen consolation prizes with valuable gifts.
