Summary of the findings of the thesis: The diplomatic trip to China in 1760-1762 by Vietnamese envoys led by Tran Huy Mat, Le Quy Don and Trinh Xuan Thu was one of the most distinguishing diplomatic trips in the eighteenth century, and the trip was also one that left a lot of research materials. In addition to the successful completion of the diplomatic missions assigned by the Court, this trip was made even more remarkable by lively academic exchanges and conversations among Chinese scholars, Goryean (Korean) envoys, Ryukyuan (Japanese) students and Vietnamese envoys - this partly reflects the atmosphere of academic exchanges between Vietnam and China, as well as other East Asian countries, in the 18th century. This thesis introduces the life and career of the great author Le Quy Don; carries a survey on the documents, exploring the academic and literary values of the works; pays special attention to the academic exchange activities among our country's envoys and Chinese officials of all ranks as recorded in Le Quy Don's Bac Su Thong Luc. 12. Practical applicability if any: In this modern era that encourages academic exchange activities, making deep researches on academic exchange activities in the previous periods provides us with an insight into the academic atmosphere in the past and a basis upon which we can build modern academic relationships with other countries (eg organizing seminars and conferences, promoting cultural exchange activities and other events etc) in order to gain a better understanding of other cultures and contribute to the advance of the human race's civilization. 13.
