Understanding theoretical issues in lexicography such as characteristics, functions, classification, structure, and types of definitions in dictionaries is essential. The Dictionary of Historical Military Place Names is a specialized encyclopedic dictionary with its own unique characteristics; therefore, it will have a unique way of presenting its two-sided structure.

Highlighting the two-way flow of information will further clarify the information guidance system that the authors adhered to when undertaking the compilation (preparing the outline, building the corpus, presenting entry units, transferring notes, etc.).
