10. Summary of the thesis results:
Chapter 1 of the thesis presents several theoretical issues related to selective mutism in young children, including existing studies, manifestations, causes of selective mutism in children, and the diagnostic criteria for selective mutism according to DSM-5, as well as approaches and psychological intervention techniques for children with selective mutism. The thesis also specifically describes the methods and tools used to diagnose and psychologically assess cases of children with selective mutism. In Chapter 2, the author clarifies ethical issues in clinical cases, identifies client problems through qualitative description and quantitative assessment using reliable tools, and defines the case to view the client's problems from multiple perspectives. In the psychological intervention section, the author details the sequence of steps and therapeutic techniques used. The results of the psychological intervention show that the children have adapted back to school and normal life.
11. Practical applications:
Currently, although the rate of selective mutism in children in Vietnam is not as high as other disorders, due to insufficient awareness among parents and teachers about this issue, and sometimes misunderstandings stemming from the children's defiance and stubbornness, children with selective mutism often do not receive comprehensive support from their families and schools. This significantly impacts the development of these young children. The author's topic is of significant importance in the psychological therapy of children with selective mutism. This thesis contributes to supplementing applied research and serves as a reference for interventions in cases of children with selective mutism.
