10. Summary of the results of the thesis:

In chapter 1 of the thesis, a number of theoretical issues related to selective mutism in young children were presented, such as existing studies, manifestations, causes of selective mutism in children and diagnostic criteria for selective mutism according to DSM-5, approaches and psychological intervention techniques for children with selective mutism. Along with that, the thesis specifically described the methods and tools used to diagnose and psychologically evaluate cases of children with selective mutism. In chapter 2, the author clarified issues related to ethics in clinical cases, client problems by qualitative description and quantitative assessment using tools to ensure reliability; shaping the case to view the problem the client is facing in a multidimensional way. In the psychological intervention section, the author described in detail the sequence of implementation steps and therapeutic techniques used. The results of psychological intervention showed that the child had adapted back to school and normal life.

11. Practical application:

Currently, although the rate of children with selective mutism in Vietnam is not as high as other disorders. However, due to the inadequate awareness of parents and teachers about this issue, sometimes there are misunderstandings due to the opposition and stubbornness of children, leading to cases of children with selective mutism often not receiving comprehensive support from family and school. That greatly affects the development of young children. The author's topic is of great significance in the psychological treatment of children with selective mutism. The thesis contributes to supplementing research in the direction of application as reference material for intervention for cases of children with selective mutism.

In Chapter 1 of this thesis, a number of theoretical issues related to selective mutism in children have been mentioned such as existing studies, its symptoms, causes and criteria for diagnosing based on DSM-5, access theories and intervention techniques therapy for selectively mute children. The thesis also describes in detail the methods and tools used to diagnose psychological evaluation of the child. In Chapter 2, the author makes clear the patients' problem by quantitative description and qualitative evaluation with reliable tools, shaping the case to examine patients in a multi-dimensional way. In the psychological intervention section, the author describes in detail the sequence of steps and therapeutic techniques used in each treatment session with the patient. Evaluation of psychological interventions has shown that children are more likely to have better relationships with others and more adaptable to their daily lives.

Currently, the rate of selective mutation in children is not as significant as compared to other disorders. However, due to the lack of awareness which causes parents and teachers to mistake the symtoms for stubbornness and disobedience, in many cases children with selective mutism are not provided with sufficient support from their families and schools. This has had significant impact on their development. The topic is of importance in the psychological treatment of children with selective mutation. The thesis contributes to the application-oriented research as a reference for interventions for patients with selective mutism.
