The thesis focuses on recreating the picture of French irrigation work in Vinh Yen province from the 90s of the 19th century to before the August Revolution (1945), which had not been previously systematically and fully studied.
The thesis has collected primary and secondary documents related to the research problem. In addition to clarifying the contents related to irrigation in Vinh Yen province, the thesis documents also clarify the investment policies of French colonialists in Vinh Yen province in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in terms of economy and society.
Although the thesis on irrigation in Vinh Yen province is more than a century old, many contents and lessons learned on water management, water supply and distribution for irrigation are still valuable in theory and practice, especially for a country where agricultural economy plays a key role like Vietnam.

Practical applicability: The research results of the thesis will supplement research materials on the history of Vinh Yen province, later Vinh Phuc province during the pivotal period of modern Vietnamese history, contributing to clarifying the socio-economic situation of Vinh Yen province in particular, the Bac Ky region and Vietnam in general in the modern period.

In addition to clarifying the contents related to irrigation in Vinh Yen province, the thesis also clarifies the investment policies by the French colonialists in Vinh Yen province in the late 19th century and early 20th century in terms of the economy and society.
Although the research focuses on irrigation in Vinh Yen province in the past, which is more than a century old now, but many contents and lessons learned about water treatment, irrigation, supplying water to the fields and distribution of water for the fields still remain valuable in terms of theory and practice, especially for a country where the agricultural economy plays a key role like Vietnam.
