10. Summary of the thesis results:

Information and information management processes are an indispensable part of business operations from the moment a company is established. Information is not only the foundation for all production and business activities but also a decisive factor in the success or failure of a business through its management decisions. However, the development of information systems and information management processes in Vietnamese businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has not received adequate investment, and the effectiveness of these processes has not been high.

To clarify the causes and solve the above problems, the author poses three questions: (1) What is the role of information management for businesses in the current context? (2) What are the existing problems and factors affecting the information management process in small and medium-sized enterprises with the typical case of KCV Thang Long Automobile Joint Stock Company? (3) What solutions are there to overcome the obstacles in the information management process in small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam? To answer these questions, the author conducts literature research to create a theoretical basis for enterprise information systems, surveys to collect data through questionnaires and interviews with business managers and leaders.

The study presents three main findings. Firstly, it defines information management and its role in businesses, analyzing its importance within enterprises. Secondly, it examines the current state of information management processes at KCV Thang Long Joint Stock Company: due to a traditional personnel structure and job assignment methods, information flow during work is fragmented, lacking interconnectedness and not organized into a unified system. Consequently, the company faces numerous difficulties in its business operations due to information deficiencies and limited interaction and information exchange among individuals. Employee training and capacity building are slow due to a lack of focus on corporate information management, the root cause being the absence of a centralized information system. Thirdly, based on this situation, the study offers several suggestions for small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam to consider in their information management processes.

11. Practical applications:

In terms of application, the research results also help businesses better understand the information management process within their enterprises and identify existing bottlenecks in information management. Furthermore, recognizing the role of information management in today's information society and knowledge-based economy is crucial for the survival and development of businesses. In addition, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam can compare these research results with their own situation, thereby selecting and applying appropriate solutions to improve their information management processes. This will provide a foundation for implementing knowledge management, creating new resources and competitive advantages in the market, and paving the way for business growth.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

Information itself and the information management procedures are vital elements of all business operations. Information is not only the foundation of every manufacturing process and business operations but with key business evacuated, information is the reason behind the success or failure of a business, However, information systems and management procedures in Vietnam are underrated and information management procedures are not as effective as they are meant to be. This is the case for many businesses, especially small and medium ones.

In order to find the reason and resolve this issue, three questions are asked: (1) What role does information management play for businesses at the moment? (2) What are the factors affecting the information management procedures of small and medium businesses, with the case of KCV Thang Long Automotive JSC? (3) How to resolve the issues in the information management procedures for small and medium Vietnamese businesses? The methods of research are document findings and surveying.

The result of the research has concluded on three key factors. Firstly, the research has defined what is information management and information management in business, analyzing the role of information management for business. Secondly, the reality, with the case of KCV Thang Long Automotive JSC: internal communication, information exchanges are limited and not structured, due to the lack of human resource management system and the work distribution method used are still traditional ones. For these reasons, the business has faced many difficulties when doing business, caused by a lack of information, interactions and exchanges within the company are limited. Human resource training and re-training are ineffective because of the underestimation of information management, that was ultimately caused by the lack of a central information system. Finally, from the conclusions above, the research has suggested a few information management models for Vietnamese small and medium business to consult and apply on.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

For application, the research has also helped businesses expand its knowledge in the procedures of information management, realising its issues in information management. Furthermore, knowing the importance of information in today's “social information – knowledge-based economy” is essential for the survival and development of the business. Besides that, small and medium businesses in Vietnam can use this paper as a comparison to their own situation. Based on this, business can choose and apply the most optimal solution to improve their procedures of information management, as a base to a knowledge management system, to create resources and advantages in the market, helping the business grow.
