The thesis focuses on clarifying the activities and role of Ho Chi Minh in the Vietnam - US relationship in the period 1911-1946.

Based on the analysis of historical data, documents on the context of Vietnam and the United States in the period 1911-1946 as a research foundation to demonstrate the role of Ho Chi Minh in the relationship between the two countries. The role of Ho Chi Minh in the Vietnam - United States relationship is shown in three stages: from the process of building the foundation for the relationship with Ho Chi Minh at that time was Nguyen Tat Thanh - on the path of learning about the United States (1911-1913), to his preliminary perception of the American revolution (1913-1941); next is the stage of building the foundation, the process of realizing the Vietnam - United States relationship through direct activities with Americans so that a more comprehensive assessment of the United States can be made (1941-1944) and the final stage is Ho Chi Minh's efforts to maintain the Vietnam - United States relationship (1945-1946).

The topic provides some practical and theoretical foundations on the Vietnam - US relationship, as well as the behavior of the state, government and President Ho Chi Minh in the relationship with major countries as lessons learned, contributing to solving some Vietnamese diplomatic issues in later periods.
