10. Summary of the results of the thesis
Research results show that immigration is now not only a choice but also a requirement of life. Among the reasons for immigration of people, both the attraction and the push have economic reasons as the key: economic difficulties in the hometown, opportunities to find jobs with high income in urban areas, etc. are important reasons.
The survey results confirmed that the immigrant poor are disadvantaged compared to the native poor in terms of high urban living costs and lack of social integration. Most of them have poor access to the social security system, due to their dynamic but precarious and risky jobs. Lack of information is a major barrier to the immigrant poor's access to social services.
Poor immigrants living in the Long Bien bridge area - Phuc Xa ward - Ba Dinh district - Hanoi are one of the typical groups of poor immigrants in Hanoi. They live in shabby, degraded boarding houses, many of whom are homeless under bridges or in makeshift houses on the banks of the Red River. This is a complex area with social evils, the presence of criminal gangs and environmental degradation. This group of people is also the subject of research and the target of many projects and social policies for poor immigrants. However, the investigation shows that the poor living here have not yet enjoyed satisfactory social security policies. They still have to endure precarious, difficult lives and lack access to basic social services due to lack of information. Support activities of the community and locality are still individual, spontaneous, unprofessional and have not created long-term, sustainable impacts.
To solve this situation, the researcher tested the model of Group Social Work with the aim of supporting the poor immigrants in the area to access social service information, towards enhancing capacity and increasing access to social services for this group. Initial results show that this is a professional model, effective in supporting the group of poor immigrants in Phuc Xa ward - Ba Dinh - Hanoi. Therefore, this is a model that needs to be replicated in supporting the poor immigrants in urban areas.
11. Practical application:
The research results of the thesis can be used as reference material for teaching group social work and supporting groups of poor immigrants in urban areas.
