University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU Hanoi

On March 14, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU) held a meeting to congratulate the educators who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology in 2012. In this award ceremony, the late Professor Tran Quoc Vuong and Professor Ha Minh Duc of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize; and Professors Doan Thien Thuat, Nguyen Thien Giap, and Nguyen Thua Hy were awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology.

From March 5th to 8th, 2012, the Dien Bien Provincial Youth Union, in collaboration with the Center for Research and Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Regions and the Red River Basin - University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Hoa Mat Troi Psychological Application Company, organized the Dien Bien Provincial Youth Workshop on the New Rural Development Program in 2012 and training to enhance the capacity of grassroots Youth Union officials in mobilizing youth.

To commemorate the 102nd anniversary of International Women's Day, the Women's Committee of the School's Trade Union organized a cooking and flower arrangement competition on Saturday morning, March 3rd, 2012. The competition attracted participation from all departmental trade unions and hundreds of union members in the school.

On February 23, 2012, the Association of Retired Faculty Members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held its Second Congress of Delegates (term 2012-2017). Attending the Congress were representatives from the leadership of the Association of Retired Faculty Members of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Party Committee and Board of Directors, and members from various branches of the Association of Retired Faculty Members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

On the occasion of the posthumous awarding of the Ho Chi Minh Prize to the late Professor Tran Quoc Vuong by the State on February 18, 2012, USSH respectfully presents an article by Professor Phan Huy Le on the life and research of Professor Tran Quoc Vuong on Hanoi. This article also serves as an introduction to the book "On the Sacred Land of a Thousand Years of Culture - a collection of writings on the culture of Thang Long - Hanoi by Professor Tran Quoc Vuong," published by Hanoi Publishing House, 2010.

On the morning of February 18, 2012, at the Hanoi Grand Opera House, the Ministry of Science and Technology held the awarding ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology in 2010.

On February 18, 2012, the Ho Chi Minh Prize and State Prize Award Ceremony for the year 2010 will take place. On this occasion, USSH is republishing an article by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai about Professor Ha Minh Duc - one of the 12 scientists who received the Ho Chi Minh Prize in this round.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India (1972-2012) and the 33rd National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Faculty of Oriental Studies - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy and the Iranian Embassy in Vietnam, organized a film screening program featuring Indian and Iranian films.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit 2011, faculty and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a ceremony to offer incense at the Temple of Literature and Mia Pagoda, Va Temple (Son Tay, Hanoi) on January 26, 2012, which was the 4th day of the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

On January 31, 2012, Professor Gary Swanson gave a talk and discussion with faculty, students, and trainees of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication on the issue of ethics in journalism. Besides sharing his experiences in journalism, Professor Swanson focused on the current state of journalistic ethics, particularly the ethics of photojournalists. He provided several specific examples of photographs that distorted the truth, photographs where the scene was staged, or even photographs with "actors" acting out scenes, which some newspapers had used.

On January 12, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a gathering for retired staff to celebrate the beginning of 2012 and the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

On January 11, 2012, the Party Committee and Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a cordial meeting with veteran teachers to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2012. Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the university – presided over the meeting.

The annual dialogue between the university leadership and students of all cohorts was held on November 27, 2011. Attendees included representatives from the Board of Directors, heads of functional departments, faculties, the Youth Union, and the Student Association. Many questions were compiled, and dozens were directly raised in the meeting hall. The university leadership listened, discussed, and answered these questions directly with the students.
