Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, People's Teacher, was formerly the Head of the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi University (1988-1991), now the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh was a lecturer who directly taught the Literature class of Batch 8 (1963 - 1967) and was extremely impressed by this exceptional student.
Impressions of a remarkable student
More than 60 years have passed, but the memories of his former student, who later became the General Secretary, remain vivid in Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh's mind.
"
I taught Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong when the entire university was evacuated to Thai Nguyen. Hanoi University was evacuated to Thai Nguyen from 1965 to 1969. I specialized in teaching Russian Literature History. In my impression, during his time at the university, Mr. Trong was one of the most serious students, diligent in his studies, quiet, and calm. After Mr. Trong graduated, I heard that he went to work at the Communist Magazine.Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh recalled.
Having followed the path of student Nguyen Phu Trong back then and witnessed his gradual maturation, Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh further affirms the integrity of this young man.
"In 2016, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the graduation of Class 8, Mr. Trong attended, at which time he was the General Secretary. At the reunion, I suddenly thought of a couplet to give to Mr. Trong. I told Mr. Trong, 'Let me borrow the word "Trong" from your name to give you a couplet.' I wrote it on the spot, without preparing it beforehand.""Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh shared."

Those two couplets are: "Respecting righteousness and integrity will revive the Party's integrity / Showcasing talent and virtue will win the hearts of the people."
This means we must value integrity and honesty to inspire the Party's spirit, and we must commend talented and virtuous individuals to unite the people's hearts.
After I presented those two couplets to Mr. Trong, he said, "Today, you and your colleagues have entrusted me with a very heavy responsibility!"
According to Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, the word "Trong" chosen for the couplet means "to value," and also implies "weight" or "weight."
But when I saw foreign news reports, I noticed they used a different version of the word "Trọng." The word "Trọng" commonly used in foreign news reports means "younger sibling," as in Mạnh, Trọng, Quý, to distinguish brothers in order from oldest to youngest.
"Later, I didn't have the opportunity to meet Mr. Trong again to ask him which part of the word 'Trong' he used in his name."", the professor said.
Noble characterAccording to Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, although Nguyen Phu Trong's time studying at the Faculty of Literature - Hanoi University was not long, and he also had to study in an evacuation area, facing many difficulties and shortages in terms of material resources and books.
But that time certainly left unforgettable "marks" on the Literature students of Class 8, especially in terms of humanistic values and knowledge about society and people.

According tounAccording to Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, Mr. Trong's later professional path, though seemingly distant, was actually very close to Literature, because studying Literature is about studying humanity.
"I believe that the knowledge Mr. Trong acquired at the Faculty of Literature is very important to his work and activities. The Party building work that he pursued throughout his life was essentially about building people, and from this point, the influence of the Faculty of Literature was significant."Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said.
Speaking about his impressions of student Nguyen Phu Trong's university graduation thesis, Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said that Mr. Trong's thesis was on folk literature in the poetry of To Huu.
Mr. Trong was also directly mentored by a very skilled and reputable teacher specializing in folklore literature, Professor Dinh Gia Khanh.
"To dare to choose such a topic requires someone with very solid professional expertise. This choice demonstrates Mr. Trong's maturity from a young age, as well as his meticulousness, certainty, and maturity in his work in general, and his qualities later in life.""Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said."
Upon hearing the news about Mr. Trong, the elderly professor expressed his regret.
"I regret it for several reasons. A General Secretary with such a high level of theoretical knowledge as him is extremely rare! Very rare indeed!"
Nguyen Phu Trong was both the General Secretary and an outstanding theorist of the Party, a particularly remarkable advantage of his. The topic he devoted his entire life to was Party building. His later writings focused particularly on Party building and cultivating the integrity of Party members.
I also admire Mr. Trong because, even though he is already the General Secretary, he continues to work on the theory of the Party.
With the passing of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, we have lost a leading expert in Party studies. In terms of character, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong was a truly noble and admirable man, loved by many. I am deeply saddened by his loss!", said Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh.
