Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Kim Dinh was formerly Head of the Faculty of Philology, Hanoi University of Science (1988-1991), now the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh was the lecturer who directly taught Literature Class 8 (1963 - 1967) and was very impressed with this special student.
Impressions of a special student
More than 60 years have passed, but the memories of his former student, who later became General Secretary, are still intact in the memory of Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh.
"
I taught Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong when the whole school was evacuated to Thai Nguyen. Hanoi University of Science evacuated to Thai Nguyen from 1965 to 1969. I specialized in teaching Russian Literature History. In my impression, during his time at school, Mr. Trong was one of the very serious students, studious, quiet and calm. After Mr. Trong graduated from school, I heard that he went to work at the Communist Magazine., Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh recalled.
Following the steps of student Nguyen Phu Trong back then and also witnessing his growth, Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh further affirmed the integrity of this student.
"In 2016, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 8th Class's graduation, Mr. Trong attended, who was then the General Secretary. At the meeting, I suddenly thought of a couplet to give to Mr. Trong. I told Mr. Trong to let me borrow the word "Trong" in his name to give him a couplet. I wrote it on the spot without preparing it in advance.", Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh shared.

The two antithetical sentences are "Respecting the government and integrity will revive the Party's integrity/Promoting talent and virtue will unite the people's hearts".
That is, we must respect integrity and uprightness to arouse the spirit of our Party, and we must praise talented and virtuous people to unite the people.
After I gave those two parallel sentences to Mr. Trong, he said: "Today, my teacher and friends have given me such a heavy responsibility!"
According to Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, the word "Trong" used in the parallel sentence means "respect", also meaning "weight".
But when I watch foreign newspapers and radio stations report, I see that they use the word “Trong” differently. The word “Trong” in foreign newspapers and radio stations often means “younger brother” in Manh, Trong, Quy to distinguish brothers in order from oldest to youngest.
"After that, I never had the chance to meet Mr. Trong again to ask which word "Trong" was used in his name.", said the Professor.
Noble personalityAccording to Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, the years Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong studied at the Faculty of Literature - Hanoi University were not many, and at the same time he had to study in an evacuation area, where material conditions as well as books were difficult and lacking.
But that time certainly left unforgettable "lines" for Literature students of Course 8, especially humanity and knowledge about society and people.

According toyesAccording to Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh, Mr. Trong's future professional path seems far away but is actually very close to Literature, because studying Literature is studying about people.
"I think the knowledge Mr. Trong learned at the Faculty of Philology is very important for his activities and work. The Party building work that he pursued throughout his life is essentially building people, from this point of view, the influence from the Faculty of Philology is not small."Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said.
Talking about his impression of the university graduation thesis of student Nguyen Phu Trong, Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said that Mr. Trong did his graduation thesis on Folklore in To Huu's poetry.
Mr. Trong was also directly instructed by a very good and prestigious teacher in the field of Folk Literature, Professor Dinh Gia Khanh.
"To dare to choose such a topic must be a person who is very confident in his expertise. That choice has shown Mr. Trong's maturity from a young age, also showing his thoroughness, certainty, and maturity in his work in general, as well as his later qualities.", Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said.
When hearing the news of Mr. Trong, the old Professor expressed his regret.
"I regret for several reasons. A General Secretary who also has a theoretical level like him is very rare! Very rare!
Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong is not only the General Secretary but also an outstanding theorist of the Party, this is his special advantage. The topic that he has been researching all his life is Party building. His last articles focused especially on the issue of Party building and building the integrity of Party members.
I also respect Mr. Trong because although he is the General Secretary, he still continues to do theory about the Party.
With the passing of Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, we have lost a profound expert in Party research. In terms of personality, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong was a man of truly noble and beautiful character, and was loved by many people. I am deeply saddened!", Professor Nguyen Kim Dinh said.
