Domestic violence against women is still a burning issue in many families in the suburban areas of Hanoi today. This is also a problem for the community and society. Research shows that in many families, women suffer violence from their husbands, of which the rate of mental violence is the highest (54% of women said they had suffered mental violence in their lifetime and 25% said they had suffered mental violence in the past 12 months).

Domestic violence occurs in a cycle. Whether it is physical, mental, sexual or economic violence, it begins with a tense disagreement between the husband and wife, the violence occurs, then the husband shows remorse and tries to regain the wife's trust and the couple returns to normal. The violent acts are often forgiven by the wife but the problem that caused the violence is not completely resolved and after a while, the cycle starts again and the violence occurs again.

Domestic violence is a complex problem that is not caused by a single cause but by a combination of many different causes. The causes of domestic violence include factors such as awareness, legal knowledge, alcohol use habits, women's resignation, gender inequality, etc., of which the main cause is gender inequality. It is the profound inequality in gender relations and the ideology of male superiority over female that is the underlying and pervasive cause of domestic violence.

Domestic violence leaves many serious consequences for the family and society such as mental, physical and reproductive health consequences, affecting the psychological and personality development of children... The locality has also had many practical activities in preventing and intervening in domestic violence against women. However, this is a long-term task and requires the cooperation of the people in general and families with violence in particular. Only when the work of preventing and combating violence is effectively implemented, will the family be considered a peaceful and happy place for family members and we can achieve the goal of building a prosperous, happy, equal and sustainable family.

11. Practical applicability: Domestic violence is an urgent issue today. The research results will contribute to providing a clearer picture of domestic violence against women in the suburban areas of Hanoi. This will serve as a basis for local authorities and social organizations to coordinate in activities to prevent and combat this phenomenon.

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis

Domestic violence towards women, a big problem regarding the entire community and society, has been negatively affecting some families in the suburbs of Hanoi these days. The study shows that in a number of families, women have been suffering domestic violence made by their own husbands, the majority of which is emotional violence (54% of the women asked said they already had to suffer from emotional violence and 25% of them revealed they were under emotional violence over the past 12 months).

Domestic violence happens following a cycle. All types of domestic violence, including physical, emotional and sexual or economical ones, always result from disagreement or conflict between spouses. After each case of violence, husbands may feel regretful of what their relationship has done to their wives and try to regain their beliefs and their will become better. These behaviors of violence are usually forgiven by their wives; however, causes of violence, has never been completely resolved, reappear and resulting in violence after a certain period of time.

Domestic violence is not caused by a single reason but a combination of various factors. Potential causes consist of poor law awareness, alcohol abuse, women's reluctant endurance, gender inequality, gender inequality, etc. It is the gender inequality and the thought of "male chauvinism" that builds up indept and throughout causes of domestic violence.

Domestic violence leads to serious consequences such as physical and mental ones as well as women's reproductive health towards families and the whole society. Local authorities have been carrying out numorous necessary activities in order to prevent and deal with domestic violence towards women. This job, however, requires time and cooperation among the whole society in general and among affected families in particular. Only when the work of preventing and dealing with domestic violence is effectively implemented will our families be seen as peaceful and happy places for family members, from which we can reach the goals of happy, equal and sustainably developing families.

11. Practical applicability: Domestic violence has become a burning problem today. The result of the study is contributing to a clearer picture of domestic violence that forms a basis for local authorities and social organizations of common concerns to cooperate in successfully preventing and dealing with this issue.
