Since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's re-election for his second term (2012-2017), the security environment surrounding Japan has become increasingly harsh, especially in Northeast Asia – a region still plagued by unresolved hotspots such as the Korean Peninsula's nuclear program and territorial disputes. With the desire to return to being a "normal" nation and, moreover, to regain its position as a world power, Japan must first have a strong regional standing and influence over its neighbors. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe implemented a series of changes in foreign policy and security strategy with countries in Northeast Asia. This thesis presents the content and implementation of Japan's security strategies under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's second term in Northeast Asia. The thesis specifically analyzes these strategies through the bilateral relationship between Japan and countries in Northeast Asia. Based on the above issues, this thesis analyzes the impacts of Japan's security strategy under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's second term on the security environment in Northeast Asia. The aim is to provide recommendations for Vietnam on leveraging the advantages of security and defense cooperation with Japan, while also forecasting future trends in Japan's security strategy towards Vietnam. The thesis also offers some recommendations for Vietnam regarding the thinking, development, and implementation of security and defense cooperation with Japan in the future.

Since Shinzo Abe's re-election in second term (from 2012 to 2017), the security environment around Japan has become increasingly severe, especially in Northeast Asia where there are still unresolved as the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula; dispute over territorial sovereignty .... With the desire to return to the "normal" country and return to the superpower position in the world, Japan must have a high position in the region and be influential with its neighbors, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made a series of changes in foreign policy, security strategy with countries in Northeast Asia. The thesis presents the content and implementation of Japanese security strategies under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's second term in Northeast Asia.

The thesis explains specific strategies through bilateral relations between Japan and other countries in Northeast Asia. On the basis of clarification of the above issues, the thesis analyzes the impact of Japan's security strategy under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's second term to the Northeast Asian security environment. In order to make recommendations to Vietnam in taking advantage of the security and defense cooperation with Japan and forecasting its strategic security trends for Vietnam in the future. The thesis also provides some recommendations for Vietnam in terms of thinking, building and implementing security and defense cooperation with Japan in the near future.
