This thesis focuses on clarifying issues related to China's policy towards ASEAN in the field of political security during the period 2012-2020, specifically: (1) Clarifying the basis for China's policy formulation towards ASEAN in the field of political security; (2) Analyzing the content, process, and results of China's policy implementation towards ASEAN in the field of political security; (3) Assessing the impact of China's policy implementation on ASEAN in the field of political security, and making recommendations for Vietnam. According to China's Comprehensive National Security Strategy, political security is the foundation of China's national security, and is the top priority among other security areas that China has identified. Along with that, China is defining its ultimate national goal in building Socialism with Chinese Characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. China's policy towards ASEAN in the political and security sphere aims to transform ASEAN into a buffer zone for China, pushing US influence out of the region and serving as a springboard for showcasing China's power globally. The concept of "peaceful evolution" remains a threat to the Chinese Communist Party, as it believes hostile forces are plotting to overthrow the Party's leadership through ideological warfare. By spreading its own Chinese values to ASEAN, China can counter the influence of Western ideology. Furthermore, China wants to use ASEAN as a springboard to further its ambitions of becoming a global superpower, while simultaneously consolidating the Communist Party's power by demonstrating that it is the only correct choice for China. Between 2012 and 2020, China successfully implemented its policy toward ASEAN in many respects, evidenced by its growing influence within ASEAN, while the US struggled with its Indo-Pacific strategy with limited achievements. However, risks to ASEAN's relationship with China in the political and security sphere persist. ASEAN's confidence in China's growing power is being shaken, forcing the bloc to carefully consider areas of cooperation with China to avoid jeopardizing ASEAN's strategic interests.
11. Practical applications: Clarifying China's policy towards ASEAN in the field of political security can provide guidance and recommendations for Vietnam in promoting cooperation with China and other countries. Furthermore, the topic can contribute to research on competition in US-China relations.

10. Summary of the thesis's findings:
The thesis focuses on clarifying issues relating to China's policy towards ASEAN in the area of political security: (1) stating the founding basis of the policy; (2) Analyzing content, implementation process and results of its realization; (3) Assessing the effects of the China implementing its policy towards ASEAN in the area of political security and providing policy recommendations for Vietnam. According to China's Total Security, political security is the foundation of China's National Security, which puts it on top of other areas of security that China has identified. With that, China is binding together the national ultimate goal in building Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and China Communist Party's leadership. China's policy towards ASEAN in the area of political security, therefore, aims to make ASEAN a buffer zone where the US influences are pushed away from its border and a launching pad to project its power to the world. Peaceful evolution is still a threat to China Communist Party as it claims that hostile forces are trying to topple its leadership by waging a war in the realm of ideology. By spreading China's own values to ASEAN, China can keep western ideology's influence away from the country. Also, turning ASEAN into a launching pad will help boost China's ambition to become a world super power will also consolidate the Communist Party's power as it proves that the Party is the chosen one and the only right choice there is for China. In the period of 2012-2020, China has been, in many ways, successful in implementing the policy towards ASEAN, which can be demonstrated by its growing influence in ASEAN while the US is still struggling with its Indo-pacific strategy with limited achievements. However, risks that come from China's relations with ASEAN for its political security remain. ASEAN's trust to China's growing power is on shaking ground, which makes the block thoroughly choose areas of co-operations with China as to avoid undermining ASEAN's strategic interests.
11. Practical applications: Understanding China's policy towards ASEAN in the area of political security might suggest implications and practical recommendations for Vietnam in shaping its relations with China and other ASEAN countries. Furthermore, the thesis might help possible researches on the US-China competitions.
12. Further research directions, if any: None.
