This thesis provides an overview of the factors affecting Vietnam-China trade relations and the current state of these relations before 1991; clarifies the Party's policies and guidance on developing Vietnam-China trade relations from 1991 to 2005 through two periods, 1991-1995 and 1996-2005, in key areas: investment cooperation in building trade infrastructure and trade in services; and offers some observations on the advantages and limitations, drawing some valuable lessons for reference.

The lessons learned from 15 years of developing trade relations between Vietnam and China (1991-2005) will be important arguments contributing to the effective and sustainable development of Vietnam's foreign economic relations.

Continuing the Party's theme of developing trade relations between Vietnam and China by expanding the subject and scope of research.
