In addition, the thesis examines the tragic aspects through national, family, and personal conflicts. It also considers the poetic qualities contained in the natural scenery, symbolic imagery, and human love. The research results reveal the beauty of the novel and the innate literary talent of its author, Alice Hoffman.

The thesis has researched and figured out basic characteristics of the novel in the composition named “The Dovekeepers”. Firstly, the thesis has focused on the most basic characteristics of historical novels; that is the epic discovered through the survey of the historical facts, fictions and the hero song about women and men. In addition, the thesis also considers the poetic nature contained in natural surroundings, icon images and human love. Research results have shown the beauty of the novel and Alice Hoffman's natural literary talent.

Research results will contribute to support for teaching in the universities and high schools for the composition named “The Dovekeepers” in particular and learning about foreign historical novels in general.
