10. Summary of the thesis results:
- An overview of the Bai Coi archaeological site, detailing the geographical location, natural conditions, and cultural history of the Nghi Xuan area in Ha Tinh province, where the Bai Coi site is located. This reveals the advantages and disadvantages of natural conditions for the formation of an ancient cultural space. Simultaneously, it explores the history of the region and its cultural traditions, adding to the overall picture of ancient culture in the area. Furthermore, it examines the discovery and research process, and systematizes existing documentation about Bai Coi.
- Summarize the main excavation and research results, especially the three excavations since 2008. This clarifies the stratigraphy, the system of relics, and the types of artifacts found during the excavations at Bai Coi. It reveals Bai Coi to be a burial site with faint traces of habitation. The main types of burials are earth pits and ceramic coffins. Artifacts include those made of stone, metal, glass, and ceramics.
- The nature and age of the site are explained through the characteristics of the relics and artifacts, along with their relationships with other sites. Accordingly, Bai Coi is a Sa Huynh culture archaeological site, strongly influenced by the Dong Son culture, especially with Dong Son relics in the Ca and Ma river basins. Combined with C14 dating results, the dating framework of Bai Coi is proven to be from approximately 2200 to 2000 years ago. In addition, the research results also indicate a change in the Sa Huynh cultural space, namely the expansion of this culture northward (to Ha Tinh).
Thus, we can affirm that the Bai Coi site holds significant importance in understanding the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in the North Central region. This represents a shift in understanding of this period in Ha Tinh, placing it within the Sa Huynh culture system rather than the Dong Son culture as previously believed. The study also clarifies the spatial and temporal relationship of the Bai Coi site with other Pre- and Early History sites in Central Vietnam.
11. Practical applications:
The research findings highlight the need to preserve historical sites in the face of sand mining and the illegal search for artifacts. Simultaneously, activities are needed to promote the value of historical documents and artifacts in exhibitions and the dissemination of information about the region's history and culture.
12. Future research directions:
This study delves into the cultural origins and development of Bai Coi, while also analyzing the cultural and spiritual life of the ancient inhabitants.
