8. Major: Archaeology Code: 60.22.03.17
10. Scientific supervisor:Dr. Nguyen Hong Kien– Institute of Archaeology
11. Summary of the thesis results:
- An overview of the Trien Tranh archaeological site, clearly outlining its relationship to the overall Champa relics in Duy Xuyen, Quang Nam. This highlights the importance of the ancient Amaravati region, encompassing the My Son Sanctuary, the Chiem Son Tay complex, Tra Kieu Citadel, and the Champapura trading port (Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham). The Thu Bon River connects these sites via waterway, and a land route runs from Tra Kieu to the Chiem Son Tay area, then along the low slopes of the Uc Dap mountain range to the My Son Sanctuary. To date, My Son has been identified as a religious sanctuary, Tra Kieu as the ancient capital of Simhapura, and Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham as the ancient Champa trading port. However, Trien Tranh, situated along the route from Tra Kieu to My Son, is a large complex of temple ruins whose role and position within the overall remaining structures remain unclear. Therefore, this complex of relics plays an important role in the study of Champa archaeology and culture in the Quang Nam region.
- This study synthesizes research findings on Champa tiles from the past to the present, particularly the 2015 excavation of the Trien Tranh site. It clarifies the stratigraphy and the classification of tile artifacts discovered during the excavation. This demonstrates that the Trien Tranh site held significant importance in the ancient Amaravati region.
- Explain the types of roof tiles and hypothesize about the roof structure of Champa architecture through the characteristics of the tile types and roofing methods of Champa architecture, and make comparisons with the types of roof tiles used in the architecture of Dai Viet culture in the north, Oc Eo culture in the south, and other types of roof tiles in Southeast Asian countries.
From this, we can affirm that the Trien Tranh site holds an important position in understanding architecture, as well as its significant role within the overall Cham relics in the Duy Xuyen area of Quang Nam province, and in the overall Cham relics in central Vietnam.
11. Practical applications:
The research results highlight the need for a comprehensive study of the types of roof tiles and their use in the roof structures of Champa architecture. Simultaneously, it highlights the importance of promoting the value of historical artifacts in exhibitions and the dissemination of information about the region's history and culture.
12. Future research directions:
This study delves into the role and position of the site within the overall Cham relics in the Duy Xuyen area of Quang Nam province, while also analyzing the cultural and spiritual life of the local inhabitants.

From there, the heart of the ancient Amaravati area includes the My Son Sanctuary - Chiem Son West relic complex - Thanh Tra Kieu estuary - Champpapura commercial port (Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham). On the waterway, the Thu Bon River connects the sites and a road from Tra Kieu to the Chiem Son Tay area and follows the low ridge of the Australian mountain range to My Son. To date, My Son has been identified as a religious shrine, Tra Kieu is the ancient capital of Simhapura and Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham, the ancient port of Champpapura, but Trien Tranh - located between Tra Kieu road to My Son, is a large cluster of architectural remains of the temple tower, but has yet to identify its role and position in the rest of the architecture. Thus, this cluster plays an important role in the study of Cham culture and culture in the land of Quang Nam.
