Given the Vietnamese culture's emphasis on emotional connection, indirect speech is quite common in daily communication, aiming to convey a message that would be difficult to express directly. Within the scope of this thesis, the author has undertaken several tasks, including: examining the implied meaning through indirect speech in several short stories and novels; describing, classifying, and drawing conclusions about indirect speech in these short stories and novels; and examining, describing, and drawing conclusions about the implied meaning through indirect speech in these short stories and novels.

The results of this study once again affirm the role of indirect speech in daily communication, and also confirm that indirect speech is a method of expressing implicit meaning. This further clarifies the characteristics of Vietnamese national culture as reflected in its language.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

In everyday conversation, Vietnamese people use periphrasis quite occasionally to communicate to the listeners a message that cannot be expressed directly. Within the scope of this thesis, the author conducted a survey on implicit meaning through periphrasis used in a number of Vietnamese short stories and novels; described, classified and drew conclusions on periphrasis in the survey short stories and novels; conducted survey and drew conclusions on implicit meaning expressed by periphrasis in these short stories and novels.

The result of the study once again affirms the role of periphrasis in everyday conversation while affirming that periphrasis is a device to express implicit meaning, through which we can have a clearer view on the characteristics of the Vietnamese traditional culture expressed in the language.
