11. Summary of thesis results:
This thesis focuses on researching the following issues:
- Concepts, classifications, and basic characteristics of specialized English vocabulary in sports, and distinguishing features compared to Vietnamese (from which to predict the advantages and disadvantages when teaching and learning specialized English vocabulary in sports).
- The current state of teaching and learning in the field of Technical and Physical Education (TA): existing problems and solutions.
Based on my research, I have come to the following conclusions:
- Vocabulary plays a particularly important role in teaching, learning, and translating specialized English in sports. Sports terminology is scientific terminology, a subsystem in contrast to everyday language. Regarding translation, there are two approaches to text translation: semantic translation and communicative translation. While there are eight translation methods, direct translation and faithful translation are emphasized as the most important.
- 439 selected English-language terms from the textbook are categorized from various perspectives. The classification results show the conciseness and brevity of this terminology system. Most Vietnamese-language translations of English terms not only convey the meaning but also attempt to maintain the same form as the original English term. However, in many cases, the translated form becomes longer than the original term. The diversity and richness of specialized English vocabulary in sports confirms that sports is an independent specialized English field.
- Many sports terms have more than one meaning, and vocabulary can have slang meanings. To apply vocabulary effectively and appropriately, attention must be paid to the slang meanings of words. To effectively apply sports terminology in translation, we need a standardized terminology system and the use of loanwords when necessary. Teachers and students of English for sports may encounter some difficulties in teaching and learning… This thesis offers some suggestions for English teachers specializing in sports to improve the shortcomings in teaching and learning: Classifying specialized vocabulary or terminology in teaching, and improving teaching content.
12. Practical applications: Applications in translation and teaching of English in the field of sports.
13. Future research directions:
- We will continue our survey of specialized English vocabulary in the field of sports in more detail, specifically by delving into the vocabulary of several popular sports such as football, gymnastics, athletics, volleyball, and swimming.
- Provide more appropriate, complete, and detailed data and reference materials on the aforementioned sports, to support translation as well as the teaching of English for sports.

11. Summary of the thesis:
The focus of this thesis is as follows:
- The concept, classification, basic characteristics of the specialized English vocabulary for sports, specific features compared to those in Vietnamese (from which expects the advantages and difficulties in teaching and learning the specialized English vocabulary for sports).
- The situation of teaching and learning the specialized English vocabulary for sports: exclusion and solutions.
Through conducting my research I have concluded as follows:
- Vocabulary plays a crucial role in teaching, learning the specialized English vocabulary for sports. The terms in the field of sports have been viewed as the scientific terms, being viewed as a sub-system compared to common words. In conducting the related translation, there have been two approaches of translating the specialized English vocabulary for sports specifically semantic and communicative translation being formulated by eight translation methods in which direct translation and faithful translation have been emphasized.
- 439 terms selected from the course books are classified under different perspectives. This classification has produced the brief, concise system of terms. Most of the Vietnamese equivalents of those terms not only convey their meanings but also keep similar forms as those in English source language. However, in many cases the forms of the Vietnamese equivalents are seen longer than the original terms. The diversity, richness of vocabulary of the specialized English vocabulary for sports has contributed to the confirmation that the specialized English vocabulary for sports contains its own independence.
- Much specialized English vocabulary for sports contains more than one meanings, even a lot of them can imply slang meanings. For effective application of vocabulary for sports we shall need to have a system of terminology that has been standardized and make use of borrowed words when necessary. In their work of teaching and learning the specialized English vocabulary for sports people may encounter some difficulties... This thesis has made some suggestions for concerning teachers to improve these aspects being seen as limitations in their teaching and learning of the students such as the classification for common vocabulary or specialized terminology for sports in teaching as well as targeted teaching contents.
12. The practical application: The application in translation and teaching the specialized English vocabulary for sports.
13. Suggestions for further research:
- To continue the tentative survey for the specialized English vocabulary for sports in which deeper study will be emphasized on certain words being used in popular sports such as soccer, gymnastics, track and field, volleyball, swimming.
- To make a more appropriate classification and reference of the specialized English vocabulary for sports to facilitate the work of translation as well as teaching the specialized English vocabulary for sports.
