10. Summary of the thesis results:

Applying Travis Hirschi's Social Control Theory, this thesis assesses the current state of substance use among high school students in Hanoi and the influence/predictive ability of family cohesion through four components: (i) emotional attachment to parents, (ii) commitment to the family, (iii) participation in family activities, and (iv) belief in family principles and norms on substance use behavior among high school students in Hanoi. The research results confirm the controlling role of the family in substance use behavior, where higher levels of emotional attachment to parents, commitment to the family, participation in activities, and belief in family norms lead to lower likelihood of substance use, and vice versa.

11. Practical applications:

This study contributes to clarifying the mechanisms by which family bonding impacts deviant behavior in adolescents, while also adding empirical evidence to Travis Hirschi's Social Control theory in the Vietnamese context. Furthermore, the research results provide an important reference for policymakers, education administrators, parents, and professionals working with children, especially adolescents with deviant behavior, in developing prevention and intervention strategies to mitigate deviant behavior in this age group.
