This study focuses on analyzing the symbolic meaning of verbs related to eating and drinking in Vietnamese and Chinese idioms. Through statistical methods, corpus classification, description, semantic component analysis, and comparative analysis, the thesis demonstrates that verbs related to eating and drinking not only convey basic meanings about the act of eating and drinking but also express social, ethical, emotional, and interpersonal aspects. The research results show that, despite cultural differences and modes of expression, both languages ​​use the symbolic meaning of these verbs to convey messages about worldview, lifestyle, and social values. This study contributes to clarifying the role of symbolic meaning in Vietnamese and Chinese idioms and provides a basis for teaching and researching comparative linguistics and symbolic meaning between Vietnamese and Chinese.

The findings indicate that, despite cultural and expressive differences between the two language systems, both use the figurative meanings of eating and drinking verbs to convey messages about life perspectives, lifestyles, and social values. This research contributes to clarifying the role of figurative meanings in Vietnamese and Chinese idioms and provides a foundation for teaching and research on comparative linguistics and the study of figurative meanings between Vietnamese and Chinese.
