10. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis studies community participation (investigating awareness, level of participation, and community support) in tourism activities in Phu Quy Island District, Binh Thuan Province, using a community-based tourism approach. The results show that community participation in tourism activities here is at level 4 according to Pretty's (1995) participation theory: participation due to perceived material benefits from tourism. Local people are not involved in the decision-making process, planning, or local tourism policies. Participation in tourism activities remains passive, spontaneous, and lacks necessary guidance and training in tourism skills. However, their awareness of tourism is quite positive. They recognize the benefits of tourism and desire the development of tourism in their locality.
Based on that, the thesis has proposed several fundamental solutions to attract community participation in tourism activities and develop community-based tourism in the island district in the coming time.
11. Practical applications:
These research findings will provide useful information for developing tourism policies, plans, projects, and strategies, not only gaining public support for tourism activities but also contributing to the sustainable development of island tourism.

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:
The thesis is to study its community participation (identifying the residents' perception, determining the level of participation as well as their support) for tourism development in PhuQuy Island with the community-based tourism approach. It is found that the level of local residents' participation is at Level four (according to Pretty's (1995) theory): participation for material incentives from tourism. Local community does not seem to have involved in the decision-making process. In other words, PhuQuy's local tourism development is likely to be top-down. Community has passively participated in tourism activities without necessary professional training. However, in general, the local residents' perception is positive, most of them favor tourism development and show interest in tourism activities in the future.
Consequently, the study has recommended fundamental solutions to attract local residents in tourism activities for developing community-based tourism in PhuQuy island in upcoming years.
