When researching this topic we aimed at the following goals:

- Firstly, while studying the topic of loneliness of contemporary people in Phan Viet's literature through two works, Voice of Man and Alone in Europe, we want to contribute to affirming the humanistic and humane values ​​of literature. We firmly affirm that the ultimate destination of literature of all times is to explore human life, reflect the subtle states deep within people and urgent problems that need to be solved in the context and trend of social modernization.

- Second, the thesis has specifically pointed out the manifestations of human beings, the causes and the state of human beings in the life of Vietnamese people in the face of a pragmatic society, dominated by money. The coldness and indifference of human beings as well as concern about changes in lifestyle, thinking, psychology, and emotions of people in modern times.

- Third, in addition to studying Phan Viet's works in terms of content, the thesis also pays attention to the writer's style, to the writer's writing techniques in expressing and conquering reality such as plot, tone, art of character description... from there, the thesis points out the writer's innovative and creative efforts in the process of keeping pace with the modernization of novels, finding new writing directions in the novel genre, moving towards modernizing Vietnamese literature at home and abroad.

There are several objectives we focus on when doing research this thesis.

- Firstly, when doing research on this thesis, we would like to insist the value of humanities and replication of literature as well as make sure that the final aims of literature in every stage is to discover human's daily life; their intricate motion in soul and the necessary problems need to be solved in a modernizing society.

- Secondly, this thesis has shown a specific way of human's behaviors; the causes as well as situation in livehood which Vietnamese has faced under the pragmatic society with the power of money are also shown deeply. We also care about the cold and emotionlessness, the changes in lifestyle, mindset, psychology, emotional in modern life.

- Besides discovering his works' content, the thesis focuses on his style of writing in terms of the plot, tone, ability of description. As the result, the thesis notices his management in creating new styles of writing in the process of novel modernization. In addition, the new ideas of writing in novels are also found to obtain Vietnamese literature modernization in particular and the other countries in general.
