Summary of the results of the thesis: The thesis is an interdisciplinary approach of textual linguistics – grammar – stylistics. The thesis's material is a statistical analysis of substitution and temporary substitution in the works of Nam Cao (through 41 short stories) and Nguyen Huy Thiep (through 12 short stories) through two publications that are selected anthologies. Chapter 1 of the thesis is theoretical in nature, introducing substitution and temporary substitution, as well as previous studies of the world and Vietnam on this conjunction, and at the same time presenting our viewpoint. Chapter 2 describes the capacity, direction of conjunction, grammatical structure of the system of substitution elements and the relationship between temporary substitution and some other conjunctions. Chapter 3 of the thesis points out the values of temporary substitution as well as its effectiveness in contributing to the unique style of each author, demonstrating the different linguistic capabilities of two unique short story writing styles in the flow of modern Vietnamese literature.
