10. Summary of thesis results: The main results of the thesis include:
This thesis investigates and evaluates the differences in the Pha Vet festival of the PakLay people in Xaiyabouly province before and after the 1986 reform period. Through research and evaluation, the author points out the history of the formation and development of the Pha Vet festival, and the basic features that a traditional festival of the PakLay people in Xaiyabouly province should have. A highlight of the thesis is the objective and direct assessment of the changes that occurred before and after the 1986 reform period. Accordingly, the Pha Vet festival of the PakLay people in PakLay district, Xaiyabouly province, is considered to have basically preserved its long-standing traditional values ​​and unique characteristics according to ancient culture. However, there have been some changes to adapt to the current situation, such as the festival being organized with more purposes, including spiritual and political purposes. The organization of the festival is not limited to the village elders but also involves decisions from relevant provincial leadership departments. Furthermore, there have been changes in the number of participants; while before 1945 the Pha Viet festival was only attended by people from the district, today it attracts people from all over the country, and even tourists from around the world. The timing and location of the festival have also tended to change, becoming longer and more extensive. Finally, the preparation process for the festival has also changed significantly compared to before 1986 to suit the current context. These changes are primarily influenced by socio-economic, cultural, and state management factors.
Furthermore, through their thesis, the author has identified the causes of the transformation of the Pha Viet festival before and after the reform period. Along with identifying a series of causes that directly and indirectly impact the festival's transformation, the author has proposed several solutions to mitigate these causes. The main stakeholders implementing these solutions are the Department of Culture, Information and Tourism of Xaiyabouli Province, the local authorities of PakLay District and Xaiyabouli Province, festival participants, and finally, the people of PakLay District and Xaiyabouli Province themselves.
11. Practical applications:
Through the research results, this thesis shows the changes in the practice of a traditional festival of the people of PakLay, PakLay district, Xaiyabouly province, thereby answering the question of how globalization and market economy affect the intangible heritage of ethnic minorities, and at the same time finding the causes and solutions to preserve the cultural identity of ethnic groups in the new era for traditional festivals for the people of PakLay in particular and the people of Laos in general.
