Simultaneously...This study examines the role of various commodities in integrating Tonkin into the global economy, specifically the role of silk and ceramics in the 17th century. Through research into the trading activities of foreign merchants, particularly European East India Companies, it presents the economic, cultural, and social transformations that Tonkin underwent.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis:

The thesis states international and regional context, as well as domestic situation in Dai Viet (Great Viet) in the seventeenth-century. Given that situation, the thesis futher evaluated and emphasized the Tonkin's international integration in the Age of commerce in Asia. Meanwhile, the thesis indicates the impacts of the export products, especially silk and ceramic, on helping the Seventeenth- Century Tonkin integrate into the international trade. By investigating foreign businessmen's activities, particularly businessmen from East India company in Europe, the thesis identifies changes in the Vietnamese's economy-culture-society.

12. Practical applicability:

The thesis can be used as a reference in understanding the trade context in Asian and Tonkin in the seventeenth century.

The thesis also indicates silk and ceramic trade as well as the complete changes in Vietnam society affected by the Western civilization.
