-The thesis researches and clarifies theoretical issues on the role of the State in building and developing a market economy in general and building a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam in particular, specifically:

+ In-depth research to clarify the views of Marxism-Leninism on the role of the State in building and developing the economy in general and the market economy in particular.

+ Find out the inherent failures or negative aspects of the market and market mechanism, thereby helping us clearly recognize those negative aspects in order to have plans and measures to limit, prevent, and overcome the failures of the market and market mechanism.

+ Analyze and clarify the role of the State in different types of markets (free market, social market, socialist market or socialist orientation).

- The thesis clarifies the current situation in the process of building and developing a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam, and at the same time proposes a number of directions and solutions to improve, enhance and promote the effectiveness of the role of the State in socio-economic management in general and in managing, building and developing a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam in particular.
