Vietnam is one of the first countries in the world to sign international conventions on the implementation of women's and children's rights, and the introduction of progressive ideas on gender equality into the family is considered a great step forward, creating legal conditions to enhance the position and role of women in the family. However, implementing gender equality (GEM) is not easy. Because a part of society still has a wrong understanding of gender inequality (GEM), and gender-biased perceptions, valuing sons over daughters, assuming that housework is the sole responsibility of women... still exist heavily, domestic violence continues to increase, causing social instability.

The fundamental cause leading to the above situation is due to the awareness of gender inequality of the media in general and press agencies, journalists, and editors in particular, which is not complete and profound in terms of theory and science.

This situation has raised important issues such as: What are the reasons for the slow progress of gender equality, the existence of gender inequality in the family and its tendency to develop more complicatedly? How to remove the challenges and barriers to narrow the gender inequality gap? What are the challenges and limitations of information work on gender inequality in the family field in the press?

Thesis"The issue of gender inequality in the family (in the Capital Women's Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper from 2015-2016)is an attempt to contribute in some way to the common effort to find solutions to the above problems.

The thesis is presented in 4 chapters (in addition to the introduction and conclusion).

Vietnam is one of the earliest countries to sign the international conventions on the implementation of women's and children's rights. Also Vietnam introduced families a number of advances in gender equality, which is known as breakthrough especially it has been improving the role of women in the family.

It is not easy to achieve gender equality for several reasons. The first one is there are some social groups still believing in gender bias. For instance, they believe Women belong in the kitchen and Men belong at the office. Another reason is the lack of awareness about gender inequality in terms of theoretical and scientific.

Thus there are some important issues to solve such as finding the reason of Progress on gender equality being far slow and more complicated how to bridge the gap for gender inequality, the challenges and limitations of information media about gender inequality in the family.
