10. Summary of thesis results:
The thesis with the topic: "The issue of green space in urban planning in China from 1978 to present - The case of Shanghai city" aims at 3 purposes:
Firstly, clarify the concept of urban green space and its importance in urban planning and construction.
Second, present and analyze the planning policies and construction of urban green space systems in Shanghai from 1978 to present.
Third, draw some experiences in planning and constructing urban green spaces in Shanghai.
From those purposes of the thesis, through the process of research, the author obtained some results as follows:
- Urban green space refers to green land located within the city and suburbs, with the function of providing recreation for people, protecting and improving the environment and beautifying the city. Green space is an important part of urban planning and construction. It is the "green lung" of the city and brings many benefits.
- Before 1978, the Shanghai government did not attach importance to the planning and construction of green spaces, so the number of green spaces was very small. After 1978, the city government proposed many green space planning policies to suit the requirements of each stage. Shanghai also put forward specific plans for green space construction with guiding ideas and specific construction goals for each stage. These policies and plans have greatly influenced the development of green spaces in Shanghai, turning Shanghai from a "city lacking in green" into a "national garden city".
- Since 1978, Shanghai has made great achievements in green space construction. However, Shanghai still faces many limitations in green space development and cannot be compared with other major cities in China. Shanghai still has a long way to go in green space planning and construction.
11. Practical application:
Through research and analysis of urban green space planning and construction policies in Shanghai from 1978 to present, we draw experiences for the green space planning and construction process in Vietnam.

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:
The thesis titled “Urban green space in urban planning and construction in China since 1978 - Case Study of Shanghai” aims at 3 objectives:
Firstly, it points out the concept of urban green space and its importance in urban planning and construction.
Secondly, it demonstrates and analyzes the policies of planning and construction of urban green space system in Shanghai since 1978.
Thirdly, draw some experience from planning and construction of urban green space in Shanghai.
Based on above - mentioned objectives, after my research and studying process, I have obtained the following results:
- Urban green space is vegetated areas within the urban and suburban areas that provides recreational facilities for the people, protects and improves the environment, and beautifies the city. Green space is an important part in urban planning and construction. It is the “green lung” of the city and brings many benefits.
- Prior to 1978, the Shanghai government did not attach importance to planning and construction of green space, so the quantity of green space was very small. After 1978, the government proposed many policies of green space planning in accordance with the requirements of each period. Shanghai also has specific plans of green space construction with the concrete guidance and goals for each period. These policies have greatly impacted on the development of green space in Shanghai. Shanghai no longer lacks green space and becomes a “national garden city”.
- Since 1978, Shanghai has obtained great achievements in construction of urban green space. However, there are many dangers in the development of green space, and Shanghai does not keep pace with other major cities in China. Shanghai still has a long way to go in planning and construction of green space.
11. Practical applicability:
Through research and analysis of the policies of planning and construction of urban green space in Shanghai since 1978 to draw experience for the process of planning and construction of green space in Vietnam.
