Ecological imbalance, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution and climate change are some of the urgent current issues. Meanwhile, the communication work to protect the environment from the unconscious encroachment of humans still has many limitations. But this is also an opportunity for cinema to promote its role as the most effective means of communication on these global issues. Documentaries on the topic of wildlife in the world have developed for a long time, both in terms of creativity and in terms of critical research. However, Vietnamese cinema has not had many great works/projects in both aspects, capable of "changing the way we think about animals and the environment". In that situation, the filmJungle Crimeby director Le Hoai Phuong (2010, "Vietnam Golden Kite Award 2011") andWhen our gardens grow silentby female director Nguyen My Dzung (2014, Third Prize Faro International Short Film Festival FARCUME 2015) is a breakthrough in making documentaries about the environment and wildlife, in which there are many approaches to the filmmaking methods of world-famous directors.
Wildlife documentary is a film genre that focuses on wild animals in nature. Through analyzing the lives of wild animals and the impacts of humans on nature, this art-media genre provides the public with knowledge and perspectives on global issues such as climate change, ecological changes, and the decline in the number of wild animals in the world.
