10. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis has focused on the current state of gender imbalance at birth in Vietnam from the beginning of the 21st century to the present. This is a demographic issue arising from the consequences of traditional culture in the context of modern socio-economic life, resulting from the combination of three factors: a preference for male children, the availability of science and technology, and birth control policies directly manifested in the practice of prenatal sex selection.
The traditional concept of a child's value in the family, specifically the concept of the value of a child, especially a son, in Vietnamese families, is a crucial factor leading to the preference for sons and the decision-making process of couples regarding sex selection.
Through two stories about the journeys of two couples in similar circumstances, yet with different approaches and outcomes in their search for a son, the study reveals the crucial role of men as husbands in the process of sex-selective abortion. Furthermore, sex-selective abortion in Vietnam is predicted to spread in the near future.

10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:
This research paper will discuss the issue of gender inequality caused by gender selection in infants globally as well as in Vietnam in particular.
Traditional thinking about a child's role within a family, specifically a son's capabilities and responsibilities compared to those of a daughter, is the major reason for son preference and gender selection in infants in Vietnam.
After closely examining two cases about two couples both thirsting for a son, who had similar circumstances but took different courses of action leading to different results, this research paper shows the important role of the husband in the matter of deciding the gender of their child. Gender selection in infants is predicted to escalate in the future.
