- Although this thesis studies a historical issue, it remains relevant today as the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) continues to prosecute those who committed genocide under the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia.
- The period when Vietnam sent troops into Cambodia to help the Cambodian people overthrow the Khmer Rouge regime can be said to be the most complex period in the history of the two countries, becoming one of the fundamental reasons leading to Vietnam's political isolation, economic embargo, and a prolonged and severe crisis. 10. Summary of the findings of the thesis:
- The thesis clarifies the establishment and development of Khmer Rouge as well as the genocide it brought upon the Cambodians, Vietnamese and Thai people.
- The thesis analyzes rationales for Vietnamese troops trespassing Cambodian border and remaining within their territory for about 10 years. Furthermore, it clarifies the activities taken by the Vietnamese to help the Cambodians get out of Khmer Rouge genocide.
- Although it concerns historical matters, the thesis still holds high journalism values since the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) is still under the process of convicting those who committed the Genocide.
- The time when Vietnam brought troops to help the Cambodians getting out of Khmer Rouge Genocide was considered the most conflicting period in the history of Cambodia – Vietnam relations.
