The China-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world today. The highlight of the China-US relationship in recent times is China's proposal to build a "new type of major power relationship between China and the US". China and the US are two major and especially important partners of Vietnam. Vietnam is facing a difficult situation and choice in its relationship with China and the US.

The thesis has studied and clarified the basis for the formation of the new type of major country relations between China and the US; the process of building the new type of major country relations between China and the US; the goals of China and the US, factors affecting the process of building the new type of major country relations between China and the US, forecasting the trend of the new type of major country relations between China and the US and giving some policy recommendations for Vietnam.
