Tuesday - January 21, 2025 19:31
This was the message sent by the school's leadership to all administrative staff and employees of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Conference summarizing administrative work in 2024, held on January 21, 2025.
Aiming for genuine values in the operation of the system.
In the context of the nationwide administrative and organizational restructuring in accordance with Resolution 18-NQ/TW on continuing to innovate and streamline the organizational structure of the political system for effective and efficient operation, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has made significant progress in its administrative work.
In its overall operations, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has found a philosophy of both paradox and rationality in the current context. Accordingly, the state budget has been gradually reduced over the past three years, following a roadmap to achieve 100% financial autonomy by January 1, 2026; tuition fees have not increased to contribute to social welfare in accordance with government policy; and the basic salaries of staff and lecturers have increased according to state regulations. In this context, the salaries of staff and lecturers have increased by 53% over the past two years; the university continues to attract high-quality staff and lecturers. Thus, amidst the general paradox of higher education, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has found rational solutions to make strong and decisive decisions for its development in the next phase.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan - Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - delivered a speech at the 2024 Administrative Work Conference.
Currently, the administrative staff of VNU-USSH is basically stable, and the scientific team is increasingly strengthened. According to Rector Hoang Anh Tuan, administration is the department that serves the school's operations, directly serving teachers and students. The role of the administrative department is very important in the overall model of the school. From administrative staff to lecturers, when they possess the highest sense of responsibility to serve, and serve even better, the school will improve the quality and reputation in training and research.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) is currently facing many new challenges. Recently, the university has rapidly and comprehensively implemented the streamlining and strengthening of its administrative apparatus in accordance with Resolution 18. The university reduced its administrative units by 34.7% (from 49 to 32) and plans to further reduce them to 25; it will also cut its administrative staff by 15% in the near future. Achieving complete financial autonomy poses significant pressure on the university. Therefore, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan urged all administrative staff to be more efficient, professional, and focused in their work to improve productivity, contributing together to the further development of VNU-USSH.
The Rector hopes that all staff members will share the vision so that VNU-USSH can strive towards true values:Real change, real work, real income.
At the conference, the Principal commended and presented gifts to seven professional, friendly, and effective staff members for their contributions to the school's general administrative work. These staff members boldly changed the approach to developing training programs, were diligent and meticulous in their administrative work, proactively resolved issues in inspection and legal affairs, and handled personnel matters creatively in communication activities, were proactive and thoughtful in student care, and were careful in financial management. Each staff member improved even the smallest aspects of their work, boldly embraced change, and continuously improved their professional skills and personal capabilities, thereby contributing to the overall transformation of the school.
Seven officials were commended for their administrative work in 2024.
The message is about a humanistic approach that is insightful, empathetic, professional, and harmonious.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that streamlining and simplifying is the benchmark for determining whether a higher education institution will survive and develop. In this general context, what should all staff and lecturers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities do?
The principal conveyed a message for 2025 to all faculty and staff of the school through four words: Understanding; Sympathy; Service; Harmony.
That is, faculty and staff need to have a thorough and specific understanding of the current situation, the context, and the issues surrounding the development of the university. This is an urgent requirement today to move towards efficient administration and enhance the reputation of the university. There needs to be connection, empathy, and sharing of common tasks among units throughout the university and among individuals; this empathy will foster trust, create social capital, and contribute to the overall resources of USSH.
Furthermore, the university's services must continuously improve, delivering the best value to students and partners, which in turn brings the best value to the people of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized: “Harmonious humanities is the ultimate goal; sustainable development in harmony affirms the character and essence of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Traditional but not outdated; cautious but not reserved; courteous but not weak or indecisive; harmonious but not violating principles…”
"We need to work together, contribute our efforts, and be united in our belief that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is not only academic but also modern, not only renowned for its academic achievements but also wealthy and prestigious" - this is the spirit that the administrative work review conference has spread to all staff and specialists of the university in the first days of welcoming the new year 2025.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy, Head of the General Administration Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, closed the conference.
The conference was attended by the entire school leadership team, leaders and staff from the administrative offices/centers, and faculties/institutes/departments.
