8. Major:Clinical Psychology (Applied Orientation); Code: 8310402
9. Scientific instructor:Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Thu Huong, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
10. Summary of project results:
The project presented an overview and reviewed studies in the world and in Vietnam on obsessive-compulsive disorder. The project presented basic issues on obsessive-compulsive disorder, including epidemiology, causes, consequences, therapies and diagnostic criteria according to DSM-5-TR. In addition, the project presented assessment and treatment methods, with the main therapy used being cognitive-behavioral therapy, combined with relaxation techniques. The project aimed to support a 21-year-old female client with obsessive-compulsive disorder to cope with her own problems.
During the intervention, the client was educated about the nature of obsessive thoughts and their self-reinforcing mechanisms. The intervention results showed a reduction in the client's obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms. In addition, the client was also provided with the necessary skills to cope with the recurrence of obsessive thoughts (if any) in the future.
11. Practical application:
The results of the intervention show the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for psychological intervention for obsessive-compulsive disorder. For this disorder, intervention through cognitive restructuring does not focus on denying obsessive beliefs, but rather on adjusting feelings of danger, feelings of responsibility, and increasing tolerance for uncertainty. However, adjusting only cognitive factors is not very effective, and intervention to prevent repetitive compulsive behavior will be more effective in the intervention of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

10. Summary of the findings of the project:
The project presents a comprehensive overview of obsessive-compulsive disorder. It also reviewed studies about this disorder in Vietnam and over the world. Within the project, fundamental topics about obsessive-compulsive disorder were mentioned, including epidemiology, causes, consequences, treatments and diagnostic criteria according to DSM-5-TR. Additionally, the project also discussed about methods of assessing and treating obsessive-compulsive disorder, with cognitive-behavioral therapy being the primary psychological treatment combined with relaxation techniques. The project aims to psychologically support a 21-year-old female client suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder and help her overcome her problems.
During intervention, the client was psychologically educated about the nature of obsessions and the way obsessions strengthen themselves. Results show that there was a reduction in the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in the client. Moreover, the client was also provided skills to cope with possible relapses in the future.
11. Practical applicability, if any:
The results of intervention demonstrate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder. With this disorder, cognitive intervention does not focus on changing the dysfunctional belief, instead it focuses on managing senses of danger and responsibility along with improving uncertainty intolerance. However, cognitive intervention alone is not very effective, and the intervention to prevent the repetition of compulsive behaviors will be much more efficient in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder.
