To contribute to a better understanding of the cooperation process between China and ASEAN, the thesis "15 Years of Comprehensive Economic Cooperation between China and ASEAN (2002-2017)" systematized the outstanding cooperation data in bilateral trade and investment cooperation between the two sides. Based on the legal framework and the global economic situation at that time, the thesis analyzed the economic cooperation between ASEAN and China over the past 15 years. From this, it pointed out the effectiveness and difficulties encountered in the comprehensive economic cooperation between the two sides.
Based on the synthesis, analysis, and comparison of collected data, this thesis has identified three key effects of 15 years of economic cooperation in the areas of bilateral trade, investment cooperation, and international economic integration; three difficulties in the process of comprehensive economic cooperation; and three challenges for both sides as major powers are also promoting cooperation with the ASEAN region. To promote and develop comprehensive economic cooperation between China and ASEAN, in addition to leveraging existing advantages and continuing to build upon the achievements already attained, China and ASEAN need to implement reforms to improve existing shortcomings and weaknesses, while also seizing favorable opportunities for the development of bilateral cooperation in the future.
