10. Summary of thesis results:
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are prevalent in the general population and have strong, long-term associations with risk behaviors, health outcomes, and disease in adulthood. In this study, the authors present an overview of adverse childhood experiences and their association with adult mental health disorders. The study also reports on the assessment and application of cognitive behavioral therapy to a psychosocial intervention for a case of ACEs and cannabis misuse with intervention goals of reducing trauma symptoms (1), improving self-esteem (2), improving interpersonal interactions (3), and reducing the frequency of cannabis use and risk behaviors (4).

Practical applicability: The thesis provides practical evidence that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is effective for the symptoms of subjects with negative childhood experiences and risky behaviors. Techniques related to relaxation, mindfulness and cognitive restructuring are very suitable in this case.
