My research focuses on addressing the following specific problems:

  1. The emergence of Ton Kham Night Market in relation to ethnic tourism development in Luang Prabang;
  2. Characteristics of Luang Prabang Night Market in comparison with some ethnic markets in Southeast Asia;
  3. Ethnic relations and social networks of market vendors;
  4. Interaction between vendors and local and foreign tourists in the social space of Ton Kham Night Market;

12. Practical application:

a. Contribute to introducing the history of Ton Kham market formation, the relationship between ethnic market culture and tourism development, thereby pointing out the social relationships of related subjects.

b. Contributing to clarifying the positive and negative impacts of tourism on the lives of local people, and how to manage markets according to the self-management method are suggestions to provide lessons for Vietnam.

My research, 'Ton Kham Market (night-bazaar) in Luang Prabang (Laos)', aims to investigate the following questions:

  1. The appearance of Ton Kham Market in the relationship between people, tourism development in Luang Prabang;
  2. The distinct ethnic features of Luang Prabang night-market viewed from a comparative perspective with ethnic night markets in northern upland of Vietnam;

c) The ethnic relations, social network and social capital of traders who sell goods in the markets place;

d) The interaction between the traders and visitors, local and foreigners in the social space of Luang Prabang night market;

12. Practical applicability, if any:

a. Contributing to introduce of Ton Kham history, relationship between the ethnic market culture and the tourism development, from which point out the social relationships of the involved objects.

b. Contributing to clarify the positive and negative impacts of tourism on the lives of local people, the market management according to the self-local methods is the suggestion to provide experience lessions for Vietnam.
