The thesis is structured into three chapters:

Chapter 1: Overview of the research situation and theoretical basis related to the thesis.

Chapter 2: Characteristics of responding to compliments in Chinese among young Chinese people and in Vietnamese among young Vietnamese people.

Chapter 3: The Impact of Extralinguistic Factors on Complimentary Responses Among Young People in China and Vietnam

Conclusion: Currently, traditional Eastern culture in general, and Chinese and Vietnamese culture in particular, are changing towards modernization with gender equality and the adoption of Western culture, which has strongly impacted both the use of compliments and the way compliments are received. Consequently, the use of compliments is more widespread, and the ways in which compliments are received are more diverse. Regarding receiving compliments, young people, on the one hand, remain modest in their responses, often downplaying the compliment, but on the other hand, they use polite language such as saying "thank you" or "reciprocating the compliment." Generally, men prefer strategies such as reciprocating the compliment, asking about the content of the compliment, or simply saying "thank you"; women tend to use thank you accompanied by sharing information about the compliment, expressing their feelings, etc.

The research findings of this thesis can be applied to communication, translation, and foreign language learning (Chinese and Vietnamese).

This topic could be developed into a comparative Sino-Vietnamese study on praise and responding to praise.

Conclusion: At present, Eastern traditional culture in general and Chinese-Vietnamese in particular are changing in the modern direction with gender equality and the reception of Western culture, thus strongly investigating compliment behavior. It is more popular for people to use compliments and the way they receive compliments is also more diverse. On the one hand, for receiving compliments, people tend to be modest with "reducing" responses, but on the other hand, they use words in a sociable way, saying "thank you", making "compliment" back to compliments. In general, men prefer some response strategies such as complimenting back to compliments, asking for compliments or just saying "thank you"; while women tend to use words of thanks attached with information about the content being complimented, to express emotions, etc.
