The thesis "The Expressive Function of Prose Language in the Self-Reliance Literary Group's Works (the case of Nhat Linh)" focuses on two issues: firstly, surveying and statistically analyzing the words expressing modality in the four novels by Nhat Linh selected for study. Through this survey and statistical analysis, the means of expressing modality were classified into specific types and groups. Secondly, it classifies expressions and analyzes the structure of each classified expression. Through the survey, statistical analysis, and classification of means of expressing modality and the analysis of sentence structure according to expression type, observations and conclusions are drawn regarding the expressive function of prose language in the Self-Reliance Literary Group's works, specifically in the case of Nhat Linh.
The language in Nhat Linh's prose possesses all the means of expressing modality in Vietnamese, and depending on the work, there is a high concentration on certain means of expressing modality.
Nhat Linh's prose is rich in evocative imagery and diverse expressive capabilities. Although his language is imbued with intellectual romanticism, it does not lack multifacetedness. In particular, the expressive power of Nhat Linh's prose extends beyond mere expression of mood; it also lies in his skillful use of word types and his refined, fluid writing style.
