This thesis clarifies the formation and development of the Shangri-La Dialogue from 2002 to 2015. The Shangri-La Dialogue (originally known as the Asian Security Summit) was initiated in 2002, where Asia-Pacific defense ministers could engage in dialogue to build trust and promote cooperation.

This thesis analyzes the importance of the Shangri-La Dialogue for regional security. This dialogue brings together politicians, diplomatic and defense officials, and academic experts to share their perspectives and reach a consensus on the regional security situation, thereby shaping frameworks for cooperation. Over the past 15 years, the Shangri-La Dialogue has become a crucial forum for finding peaceful and security solutions for a rapidly changing Asia.

This thesis presents Vietnam's participation and contributions to the Shangri-La Dialogue. Based on this, the thesis proposes measures for Vietnam to continue participating effectively in the dialogue and enhance its position and role in the region.

The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue (originally known as the 'Asia Security Summit') was initiated in 2002 in response to the evident need for a forum where Asia-Pacific defense ministers could engage in dialogue aimed at building confidence and fostering practical cooperation.

The thesis analyzes the importance of the Shangri La Dilogue for regional security. It is also attended by politicians, defense officials, academic experts… discussions on defense and security in the Asia-Pacific. Over the past 15 years, the Shangri La Dialogue has been an important forum for seeking peace and security measures for a rapidly changing Asia.

The thesis shows the participation and contribution of Vietnam in the Shangri La Dialogue. Thereby, the thesis proposes measures for Vietnam to participate in dialogue with high efficiency.
